The hugely effective work done through the National Collective of Community based Women’s Networks (NCCWN) which includes the Roscommon Women’s Network, the Blaney Blades and Dochas for Women, Co. Monaghan, the Donegal Women’s Network, the North Leitrim Women’s Centre, the Claremorris Women’s Group and Women’s Community Projects Mullingar are being threatened by new structures and regulations imposed by a change in government policy.

For the past number of years I have worked in the Petitions Committee of the European Parliament with constituent Ryan Stewart on the issue of VRT on borrowed vehicles regularly traversing the border between the Republic and Northern Ireland. To date the Irish State has fined unconditionally citizens driving Northern Ireland registered vehicles across the border even where the car is only being used on a temporary basis causing considerable problems for people in border and adjacent counties.

Common Sense Agreement Vital For Hill Farmers
 
I have been considerably involved in attempting to resolve problems surrounding access for hill and commonage farmers to the GLAS scheme.  I spoke in support of these farmers in Westport and Letterkenny because I believe that they have a just cause.

State and Communities Need to Support Post Offices

Threats to post offices throughout rural Ireland are growing and I have been active on this issue. Pressure I and others exerted resulted in a reprieve for Barnaderg Post Office in Co. Galway while I also attended a protest meeting to head off the threat to Cappataggle Post Office.
